Thriving celebrates the uniqueness and diversity of kids and young people to create inclusive environments they can exercise in, to improve their health and wellbeing.

The Thriving in Motion — Youth Moves initiative is a program designed to provide vulnerable young people the opportunity to engage in physical activity in a supportive and inclusive environment while building skills and experience in various movement activities to assist in optimising their wellbeing.

The program runs for 10 weeks and is an opportunity for young people (15-25 years of age) to experience a variety of different types of movement activities, including yoga, badminton and outdoor sports, to build their skills and confidence to engage in various types of community physical activity.

The long-term goal is to provide young people who may not have had the opportunity to engage in these various types of activities the chance to experience them in a positive and encouraging way.

So far, the Thriving in Motion — Youth Moves program has won the following awards:

  • Practitioner Award at the Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA) Research to Practice Conference 2024
  • Most Inclusive and/or Diverse Program at the AUSActive National Awards Program 2024.

This initiative was supported through the Sport and Recreation Inclusive Participation Grants Program, which provides grants up to $150,000 to help organisations create accessible and safe physical activity opportunities for low participation groups.
