The Problem Gambling Support Services Committee (PGSSC) was established in 1995 pursuant to section 15 of the Gaming and Wagering Commission Act 1987 to address issues associated with gambling-related harm in Western Australia.
For many people, gambling can be enjoyed responsibly. However, there are risks associated with gambling and harms can affect both individuals and their families, friends and communities.
Under Section 8 (da) of the Gaming and Wagering Commission Act 1987, the Gaming and Wagering Commission is tasked to take steps to minimise harm to the community, or any part of the community, caused by gambling.
The PGSSC was established under the auspices of the commission in 1995 to address issues associated with gambling harm in Western Australia. The PGSSC’s mission statement is:
To educate the community of Western Australia on the impact and consequences of problem gambling and to facilitate and promote the help services available for those people affected by gambling related harm.

The PGSSC is self-funded through voluntary contributions from wagering service providers and is not reliant on an appropriation from Treasury. Executive support services are provided to the PGSSC by the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
